Sorry I have failed to get a group email couple past couple weeks.
I promise I am not dead, though I will admit to exhaustion. That's a
thing all too common. But I like to think of it like soreness: it's a
sign you are working hard, and that's what I came here to do.
This past week has been a miracle after another. This week Was a
little more of a trial than most, with my companion, Hermana Hoffman,
feeling more homesick than usual, and me working On Some Christ like
attributes That Were A couple sizes too big or too small to begin with
(in --other words , Think twice before you pray for humility). Really,
though, it has been an amazing experience and I have tried to ask my
companion what I can work on and then do it.
More importantly, I have been asking God what I can work on. There is a talk I absolutely love
by Elder Larry R. Lawrence from the October 2015 general conference of
the church of Jesus Christ if Latter Day Saints called "What Lack I
yet?" In this talk Elder Lawrence challenges us to ask the Lord "what
lack I yet?" Or, in other words, "what can I do to improve?" It is
beautiful and amazing to me how we can get such personally tailored
revelation from the spirit. The first time I asked to know
what I could do, and I was honestly
surprised by the answer. It seemed like a little thing not
related to the work at all,
But it proved fortuitous and made a monumental difference. I would challenge each of you to ask that
question and be open to the answer you receive. It was for me a
remarkable experience and I hope you can find the same.
My last companion always said that the hardest days are the ones when
you see the most miracles because it is Satan at work to keep you from
somethings he knows will be really good. And that's what this week
was. We put all our teaching goals for the week - exceeded them
actually. We had tons of lessons and an amazing amount of new
investigators. This past Thursday I felt like we should go knocking in
a particular neighborhood. My companion had already been knocked there
before, but agreed.
I knew the street we should knock as soon as we drove past.
Saul , Saul, was born in Saul
. As we were leaving, his grown daughter, Carla, was
coming to pick up her son, Jacob, who had been spending the day with
his grandpa, Saul. It was actually she who asked us what we believe.
We know that God is our Heavenly Father
who loves His Son, Jesus Christ to make possible the
plan of salvation, by which we can be made clean and return to live
with God and With our families forever. We have the
knowledge of this plan, and the power and authority to bring it about,
Had been restored through a modern prophet, Joseph Smith, who was
called to restore the church that Christ
.
She Asked us if We Could come teach her and her son about eternal
families and a modern prophet and we are happy and eager to do so.
We also got to teach a woman who we found while out knocking, named
Yesenia. When we Told her about Joseph Smith's vision in qui God and
Jesus Christ Appeared to _him_ in answer to prayer à son know what
church to join, she Told us she got warm chills all up and down her
body. We told her that the Holy Ghost bearing testimony of truth.
She told us she believes it is true and wants to teach her family.
The spirit was so strong,
And it was beautiful to see the light in her eyes!
We also have a nine year old boy, Anthony, the restoration. At one
point during he lesson my companion and I were switching off teaching
different points and asking him questions and such. "Mom, they're team
working!" Anthony explained. That just made my heart happy.
Hermana Hoffman has been a joy to work with. It is weird to think
we have had a whole month together, and then even weirder to think we
have had ONLY a month together.
One thing Anthony said during my lesson really struck me. We had just
told him about Joseph Smith's vision and asked him how he would feel
if God appeared to him.
"Normal, Comfortable," was his response. Not what I expected.
I know I would feel far from normal. But that's the goal, is not it? To
ultimately feel comfortable in the presence of God, to return to him
and become like Him. That is our purpose here on earth. And every time
that we pray and read the scriptures and stand in holy places we are
learning to be in his presence and be comfortable there.
Love you all. Thank you for your support and prayers,
