So to begin with, transfer news: my companion, hermana hoffman, is being transferred tomorrow to New mexico and I am getting the ace of spades: i am being paired again with my MTC companion, Hermana Hernandez, which, I've heard, pretty much never happens. i'm a little nevous to take over the El Rio area and incredibly sad to loose hermana hoffman, but I am so excited to be back wiht hermana hernandez!
This week we saw some pretty awesome miracles--they always seem to happen right before transfers.
last week we were left with some extra time in the day and were wondering what we sould fill it with. i suggested we go tracting and my companion handed me th emap on her ipad and told me to pick a street. Ahh! that's like taking someone into a library and telling them that one of the books has a hundred dollar bill in it and htey could only check one book! I prayed and felt like we should go to Lincoln street. We knocked six houses, five of which answered the door and listened to our message, and four of which invited us to come back and teach them more. One in particular, named maria told us she wanted her husband ot hear it as well.
This week we saw some even more incredible miracles. yesterday i wasn't feeling very good, but sundays are some of hte best days to go teach and it was hna Hoffmans last day teaching in el Rio, so we went out. We decided to go visit a less activein the hospital and while we were there her friend, annie, came to visit. it came out that annie had questions about our church. she had been deep in drugs and street gangs with the less active we were visiting, Lorraine. One night she had decided to sleep in a ditch on the temple grounds. She said that as she was falling asleep a man cam eup and asked if she was alright. She responded that she was exhausted and he said to her, "Go to sleep, my child. i will watch over you tonight." She said that happened for many weeks.
Some time later she found herself in prison and the gaurd told her she could p[ick a book from a box. She picked one with handcuffs on the front because it looked cool and it ended up being a bible. She had toruble reading it but kept at it and when the book was taken from her tried to look for it. It ended up taken from her three tiems and each time she found it again.
When she got out of jail she started trying to talk to God and attending churches, but, she told us she was still really confused and felt like something was missing. We shared with her hte message of the restoration and it rang true with her. Then my companion pulled out an English Book fo Mormon from her bag. 'you know,' she said, 'you were meant to have this because i usually only cary spanish on me but as we were getting out of hte car i felt like I should grab this."
We told her that it would complete what she thought was missing and fill the void she felt. She took it, read some, and then said to us, "yes, i beleive it will."
We also got in this week with two less actives, hector and patty, who missionaries hadn't visited in almost two months after they got mad about something. hna hoffman was really nervous to call them and asked me to pray for her as she did. i prayed that they would invite us back and they answered their phone and said we could come over, but it would have to be some time next week. i was kind of dissapointed because i was hop[ing to get in with them while Hna Hoffman is still here because she knows them and their back story. I prayed again and not a minute later patty called back and said, 'you know what, why don't you come right now."
after I shared our message with them, they said, "That was beautiful. Thanks." i invited them to finish reading the chapter I had read out of and the husband said he was plannig to already! while Hna hoffman was writing down the reference i invited them to come to stake conference next week and they said they would be there.
As we were walking to our car hna hoffman said, "You may have just gotten them back to church for the first time in six months."
The Lord is at work!
